Part design considerations
- Machining stock/allowance must be planned into the casting design, not added after the fact
- Fixture points should avoid cosmetic or functional surfaces where possible
DFM guidance
- Identify which features are functionally critical during quoting so casting allowance and fixturing are planned together
- Consider datum strategy early — how a part will be held for machining affects achievable tolerance
Quality controls
- Dimensional inspection of machined features against the print
